Seniors Captain's

WELCOME

Welcome to the Seniors Section of Long Sutton Golf Club. I am Steve Uzzell and I have the great honour and privilege to be the Seniors Captain for the forthcoming year, 2022. I am ably assisted by my Vice-Captain, Mike Bowling, and by a very committed, hardworking, and friendly committee.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank last year’s Captain, Graham Brimble, and his committee, for all of their hard work and dedication during the past year, in what has been a challenging period.

The Seniors section has grown considerably over the past year and now stands at over 200 members. I am sure this is partly due to the huge amount of work carried out over the past two years by our owners, Stuart and Ann Hodder and their team, to both the course and the clubhouse, creating a golf club that we can all be extremely proud of.

As a section, we carry out a full diary of events throughout the year, starting in early January, through to late December. The Seniors’ meet up every Thursday morning, with a variety of competitions, including, medals, stablefords, and team games, arranged by the committee and promulgated on the Ig calendar and diary.

To become a member, we ask for a subscription of £10 for the year to cover administrative costs, and for the each competition there is a charge of £3 each time you play, which is then awarded in prize money. The £3 is paid directly from your golf club account when you sign in to the competition on Ig.

In addition to the Thursday games, we have Seniors ‘friendly’ matches against other clubs in the area, on a home and away basis. These matches commence in April and run through until September. We have a reciprocal agreement with the 14 other clubs, where a charge is made of between £13 and £15 which includes a meal after the match, as well as the round of golf. These matches are normally 12 aside, played in a pair’s better ball format, and always played in a very friendly, but competitive spirit. Look out for the sign up forms in the changing room.

We, as a section, also hold two Opens a year. The Spring Open in May is normally a Texas Scramble, with the second Open, the Summer Open, held in August, with a pair’s better ball format. We welcome some 180 players on each day from not only Long Sutton, but also from the majority of the other clubs throughout the region.

With all that we have recently encountered, regarding Corona virus, let’s hope for a brighter future where we will be able to enjoy a full year of friendly golf, on our exciting and ever evolving course.

If you are new to the club and are thinking about joining the Seniors Section, we will be more than happy to welcome you into the fold, where you will find a warm and friendly atmosphere. Hopefully over the coming months I will be able to enjoy a round of golf with you, but in the meantime, please do come and introduce yourself.

The nominated charity for 2022 is ‘Mind in Somerset’ and is being supported by all sections of the club. The club is renowned for its generous donations to numerous charities over the years, and I am sure this coming year will not be any different.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me, or any member of the committee, and we will try and resolve any issue or concerns that you may have.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and I look forward to seeing you at the golf club.
